Welcome!
Geforthian Strand is one of 42 member groups throughout the UK, USA and Canada that form Regia Anglorum. We attempt to create a cross section of English life around the turn of the first millennium. Our actual self-imposed brief is AD 950 to 1066, although our events may be set a few decades either side of these dates.

Acting as the main formative group within North America, the aim of Geforthian Strand is to form organized groups throughout the continent where they will be able to plan their own local events as well as joint events with neighboring groups. Five regional local groups have already successfully formed – see [Distribution Map]. Once a group is approved (having obtained a ‘Grant of Land’) it will be assisted in the early stages by being teamed up with a mentor. .The mentor can either be someone from North America or the UK. He or she is someone who is recognized as having accrued a substantial amount of knowledge and practical experience over the years and who is able and willing to pass along this experience and to answer questions and provide guidance on matters arising within the newly formed group

However, on a personal level the first thing you need to do is decide if Regia Anglorum calls to you. Frankly, our strong stance on authenticity does not suit everyone and you would be joining a professionally organized society that has considerable standing within the academic community. Some welcome the attention to detail that Regia promotes, but those less committed to accurate portrayal may find it oppressive. Should you decide to join Regia Anglorum you will be eligible to subscribe to both our UK and N.A. member-only e-lists.
Contributors to these lists form an enviable and reliable source of many years of research into the period, the highest standards of portrayal and a commitment to ‘getting it right ’ that have forged an international community that is probably the best in its field. One immediate way you can become involved is to subscribe to our open North American e-list. You don’t need to become a member in order to join this list where we will be glad to hear you introduce yourself. If you wish, you are free to ‘lurk’ and become familiar with us before participating.
